Innovation Unveiled: Kanazawa’s 21st Century Museum of Art
Kanazawa, Japan – a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and exquisite gardens – holds a secret treasure, the 21st Century Museum of Art. Nestled near the famed Kenroku-en garden, this museum is a captivating fusion of art and architecture. Designed by the celebrated Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA in 2004, the museum’s circular form, with a diameter of 112.5 meters, is a sight to behold.
Our art observation started before we entered the museum building. In the front yard there are several pieces of art objects you can explore. Once you get in the building, you can purchase the ticket and get rid of your bags in the coin locker.
The museum is renowned for its circular, glass-walled design, offers a space where visitors can enjoy contemporary art in a non-traditional setting. It features both Japanese and international artists, with an emphasis on new artistic expressions that break conventional boundaries. One of the iconic display is The Swimming Pool by Leandro ERLICH. We had to make a reservation to visit this exhibit.
