Art of Japanese Flavors – Kikunoi Akasaka
Kikunoi Akasaka, a celebrated two Michelin-starred restaurant, is a sister restaurant of our favorite Kikunoi Honten in Kyoto. Established in Kyoto in 1912, Kikunoi Honten has become a symbol of tradition and culinary excellence, artfully weaving the essence of each season into meticulously crafted dishes, all served with an unmatched touch of hospitality. The world-renowned chef, Yoshihiro Murata, opened his restaurant in Akasaka to serve in the Japan’s capital city. Chef Murata currently spends his time evenly between Kyoto and Tokyo.
After being dropped off at the restaurant’s entrance by taxi, we followed a stone path through a bamboo forest. It was hard to believe we were in the middle of Tokyo business district. The interior of the restaurant had a modern ambiance, which was different from that of Kikunoi Honten. If you are not familiar with a kaiseki meal, this restaurant is a great introduction for you. There were a couple of waiting staff who could speak English when we visited there.
They offer only the set courses. You choose your desired course based on price range and inform them of any dietary needs you have. The attraction of meals at Kikunoi is not just food they serve. We appreciate the presentation of dishes, the seasonal decorations in the room, and the conversation with the chef and wait-staff. It is the whole experience that makes this place so special for us.
