About Rokkaku Hamakatsu

Savor the Fusion: Rokkaku Hamakatsu Japanese Culinary Odyssey in Honolulu

We usually stop by this restaurant in the Ala Moana shopping mall. Rokkaku Hamakatsu is a great Tonkatsu place where we feel we are in Japan. The restaurant brings together the flavors of Japan and the charm of Hawaii. This unique eatery, with its roots in authentic Japanese cuisine, offers an extraordinary dining experience that caters to both the heart and palate. Like you are in a regular tonkatsu restaurant in Japan, your rice, miso soup, and cabbage are all you can eat. We also had a crab crocket as an appetizer, which was creamy inside and crispy outside.

If you are at Ala Moana Mall, we recommend you check out Goma Tei Ramen, Nijiya Market, and Minamoto Kitchoan Honolulu. Also, Don Quijote is within walking distance from the mall where you can purchase not just Japanese food items, but also souvenir from Japan, reasonably priced sake and shochu, and amazing poke. There are a lot of Japanese flavors in Honolulu!

The Essence of Japanese Tradition

Rokkaku Hamakatsu’s journey begins with its foundation: a fusion of Rokkaku’s dedication to traditional Japanese cuisine and its celebrated tonkatsu heritage. Their half-century legacy of exquisite taste and exceptional service is evident in every dish. The restaurant focuses on preparing food and crafting an experience that embodies the integrity and quality of Japanese culinary art.

A Delight for Tonkatsu Aficionados

At the heart of Rokkaku Hamakatsu’s menu is its world-class tonkatsu. Their Berkshire Pork Loin Cutlet and Chicken Cutlet set new standards for this classic dish. The crispy outer layer and moist, tender interior create a perfect harmony of textures. The unique touch of grinding your own sesame seeds for the tonkatsu sauce adds a personal and interactive element to the meal, enhancing the overall experience.

More Than Just Tonkatsu

While tonkatsu may be the star, the restaurant’s menu is a diverse palette of Japanese flavors. The Assorted Sashimi Platter showcases the freshest seafood, flown in directly from Japan. Each piece is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to using only the best seasonal ingredients. The Grilled Miso Butterfish and the Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Shabu Shabu are standout dishes, reflecting a blend of traditional techniques and modern culinary innovation.

Unique Culinary Techniques and Ambiance

This restaurant sets itself apart by using binchotan charcoal, a special ingredient imported from Japan. This charcoal is renowned for its ability to perfectly cook meat and fish, preserving their natural flavors and adding a sublime sear. The restaurant’s cozy atmosphere, coupled with its hospitable staff, creates a welcoming environment that’s perfect for unwinding after a long day.

A Haven for Sake Lovers

The sake selection at the restaurant is a journey in itself. Each sake is carefully chosen by the knowledgeable staff, ensuring that customers have a unique and satisfying experience. The Tatami Room, a private dining area, offers an intimate setting for special occasions, embodying the essence of Japanese hospitality.

A Culinary Gem in Honolulu

Rokkaku Hamakatsu is more than a restaurant; it’s a destination where every meal is an exploration of Japanese cuisine’s depth and diversity. Its reasonable pricing, especially for the upscale setting in Ala Moana Center, adds to its appeal.
