Discover the Rich History and Unique Flavors of Tokyo Port Brewery: Tokyo’s Premier Sake Haven

Tokyo Port Brewery is a historic sake brewery located in Shiba, Minato-ward, Tokyo. Its history can be traced back to the Edo period when it was established under the name “Wakamatsuya.” However, it was closed for over a century during the Meiji period due to policy reasons.

In 2011, the brewery was reopened and obtained a sake manufacturing license in July 2016. Since then, Tokyo Port Brewery has become the only sake brewery in Tokyo, attracting sake fans from all over the world.

The brewery’s history is not the only reason why Tokyo Port Brewery has become so popular. Making high-quality sake is crucial for maintaining a loyal customer base. Therefore, the brewery conducted extensive research before reopening, and one of the crucial findings was the importance of using Tokyo’s water to make their sake.

Tokyo’s water is considered to be one of the best in Japan due to its purity, minerals, and softness. Tokyo Port Brewery uses this water to make its sake, giving it a unique taste that is distinct from sake brewed in other regions.

The brewery has several types of sake, including Junmai, Ginjo, and Daiginjo. Junmai is the most traditional type, while Ginjo and Daiginjo are more refined and expensive. They use only the finest rice and yeast to produce their sake, ensuring that every bottle is of the highest quality.

The brewery offers tours to visitors, where they can learn about the history of the brewery, the sake-making process, and sample different types of sake. The tours are available in English, making it accessible to visitors from all over the world.

In addition to sake, Tokyo Port Brewery also offers other products such as shochu, a distilled alcoholic beverage. They also have a restaurant where visitors can enjoy Japanese cuisine paired with their sake and shochu.
